He has certainly never been a traditional ‘boring’ accountant even though he spent 30 years in practice. During this century alone he has been a tax partner at BDO in London, Chairman of the ICAEW Tax Faculty and Director of Tax Business Development for a large consultancy. He is also a long-time member of The Magic Circle.

Austin HughesAustin Hughes, Chief Economist, KBC Bank Ireland
Austin Hughes has worked as an Economist for KBC for over 20 years, following stints in the Department of Finance, Central Bank and Bord Fáilte. His focus is on issues affecting the Irish and European economies. He produces a number of closely followed Consumer and Business Sentiment Surveys. He is also a regular contributor to media on economic and financial topics.

Jim PowerJim Power, Power Economic Limited
Jim Power is owner manager of Jim Power Economics Limited and conducts economic and financial consultancy projects both in Ireland and overseas. He has taught on the Executive and Full-Time MBA at the Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business, University College Dublin and at Dublin City University. He is currently teaching a Diploma in Economics for Independent Colleges. He is an economic advisor to Friends First Group.
He writes a weekly column in the Irish Examiner and contributes to numerous other newspapers and magazines on an occasional basis. He is a board member of Agri-aware, the food awareness body and is Chairperson of Love Irish Food. His first book ‘Picking up the Pieces’ was published by Blackhall Publishing in November 2009.

John set up ‘John McCarthy Consulting Limited’ in 2007 to carry out training courses for professional bodies.
