I’m getting an Error message when trying to install the program, what should I do?

If you get an error message, take note of it and click OK. Some errors are just warnings and will not stop the program from installing. However, if after clicking OK to the error the installation does not complete successfully, please look at the information below.

Here are a list of common installation errors and what they mean.

    • Error 1304 / 1305 - This error occurs when the CD is faulty or when there is a problem with the CD drive. Students can ask their lecturer for a new trial CD. Or try copying the entire contents of the CD to a folder on the desktop and install the program from there.
    • Error 1327 - You may get this error if you don’t have a local drive C: to install the program on. If you get this error, please consult your IT Specialist.
    • Error 1603 - This error commonly occurs on PCs that don’t have sufficient disk space. Please check that the PC meets the minimum system requirements.
    • Error 1628 - This error commonly occurs when you try to install Sage Accounts more than once at the same time. Reboot the PC and try installing the program again.
    • Error 1904 - This error occurs when the installation is unable to register 1 or more files. Make a note of the files specified and try to manually register them. If you need help doing this, please consult your IT Specialist.

I’m being asked to log into the Company I’ve just set up in Sage Accounts, what is the log on?

If you are asked to log on, the default logon for a new company in Sage Accounts is:

    • Logon: Manager
    • Password: (leave this blank)

Sage Accounts was working fine, but now I get a “Username in use” message when I try to log in, how can I fix this?

    • Normally you get the Username in use message when the program was not closed down properly E.g. There was a power cut or program had to be force closed
    • When this happens Sage Accounts thinks that you are still logged in even though you are not.  In order to fix this you need to need to delete the queue.dta file
    • Search for this file on your PC.  When you find it, delete this file. If there is more than one instance of this file, then delete each one.

I’m getting a “Waiting to open” message in Sage Accounts, what does this mean?

There are a number of reasons why you might receive the message: 'Waiting to open file...'. These include:

    • The file is incorrectly flagged as read-only
    • The file does not exist
    • The Windows user does not have the necessary Windows permissions to open or amend the file
    • Corrupt file
    • The file is locked open on the server

Check that the files are not read only

    • Browse to the ACCDATA folder.
    • Right-click the problem file > Properties.
    • Ensure that the Read-only check box is clear > OK.
    • If the Read-only check box is selected, there may be other DTA files flagged as read-only. You should right-click the ACCDATA folder > Properties and ensure the Read-only attribute is clear.
    • OK > select the Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files option > OK.

    Try renaming the file

    • Take a backup of data files, or take a copy of the ACCDATA folder and place it on the Desktop.
    • Browse to the relevant ACCDATA folder and try to rename the file, change the extension from DTA to OLD.
    • If the file can be renamed, you have the necessary Windows permissions and must rename the file again to change the extension back to DTA.
    • If you receive an Access Denied message, it is likely that the user account does not have the necessary Windows permissions. If this happens, please consult your IT Specialist.
    • Log all users out of Sage Accounts then restart the PC on which the data files are held

Note: If the PC that holds the data is also the server PC on the network, you will need to reboot the Server. Please ask your IT person for help doing this.

It is possible that the file has become locked. This can be corrected by restarting the PC that holds the data files. The customer should ensure that all users are logged out of Sage Accounts before restarting the PC.
